Parineeti Chopra praised her husband, Raghav Chadha, as a “star” following his recent address in Parliament regarding the pressing issue of film piracy. The actress expressed her support for Chadha’s efforts to tackle a problem that has long plagued the film industry.
During his speech in the Rajya Sabha, Chadha highlighted the severe impact of piracy, which has resulted in an annual loss of over Rs 20,000 crore for the film and OTT industries. He described piracy as a pervasive issue affecting not only cinema but also digital platforms. Chadha noted, “Piracy and unauthorised reproduction of copyright content have caused significant financial damage, with a 62% increase in piracy incidents reported during the pandemic.”
In his address, Chadha proposed amending the Cinematography Bill to address the rise in piracy on OTT platforms, suggesting that the current legislation primarily targets in-theatre camera recording and does not adequately cover digital content. He urged the Minister to consider a new mechanism or amendment to better tackle piracy and protect the hard work of artists.
Parineeti Chopra shared a video of Chadha’s speech on her Instagram Stories, commending him for raising this critical issue. She wrote, “You’re a star for raising this important issue in Parliament, my love,” accompanied by a king emoji.
Chopra, who was last seen in the film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ married Raghav Chadha last year.
