In a recent announcement, producer Pranjal Khandhdiya revealed that the much-talked-about film “Dhak Dhak,” chronicling the epic bike journey of four women from Delhi to Leh, is set to have a sequel. Currently creating a buzz on an OTT platform, the original film features a stellar cast including Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanjana Sanghi.
Khandhdiya expressed his excitement about the rare and challenging nature of the first film, stating, “A story like Dhak Dhak is a rarity. The film has so many challenges and hence nobody has been able to make such a film till now.” He added that work on the sequel has already commenced, hinting at a new adventure that might take the dynamic girl gang to Barcelona.
The producer also discussed the possibility of maintaining the original four female characters or introducing male characters in the sequel. “It’s a matter of how we take the story forward. However, the audience will definitely get to be part of this journey. Dhak Dhak will not stop at Khardung La. The journey continues,” he assured.
Khandhdiya expressed his reluctance to label films as ‘women-centric,’ emphasizing the importance of a compelling story that entertains. He emphasized the audience’s maturity in sensing a story ahead of time and the potency of good writing in driving a film’s success.
Speaking about the challenges of assembling an ensemble cast like in Dhak Dhak, the producer noted, “This is one of the biggest reasons why Bollywood doesn’t see many ensembles.” He highlighted the complexity of casting four women of different age brackets, social strata, and upbringing, revealing that the real challenge lies in releasing a film rather than the filmmaking process itself.
On a different note, Khandhdiya expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with actress Taapsee Pannu in production, citing their friendship-turned-business partnership as a comfortable and effective way to create meaningful content.
