Renowned actor Rajinikanth, currently engrossed in the shooting of his upcoming film ‘Vettaiyan’ directed by TJ Gnanavel in Nagerkovil, abruptly halted production today. The reason behind this unexpected decision is the demise of Captain Vijayakant, which occurred earlier this morning. Rajinikanth is reportedly rushing back to Chennai to pay his respects to the late actor and politician.
Despite their political disparities, Rajinikanth and Vijayakant maintained a friendly relationship. Vijayakant, originally known as Vijayaraj, made a name change by dropping ‘raj’ and adding ‘kanth’ to become ‘Vijakant.’ In the past, the two iconic actors, who were formidable competitors in the 80s and 90s, never shared the screen in a full-length film. However, they both made a cameo appearance in K Balachander’s ‘Manathil Urudhi Vendum,’ featuring Suhasini, in the song ‘Vangaala Kadale.’
Notably, in 2019, Rajinikanth paid a courtesy visit to Vijayakant after the latter underwent medical treatment in the United States. The meeting, which occurred at Vijayakant’s Chennai residence, reflected the enduring camaraderie between the two stars.
