In a surprising turn of events, acclaimed director Alphonse Putheran, known for his successful films ‘Premam’ and ‘Gold,’ has sparked controversy with two recent statements on social media. Taking to Instagram, Putheran alleged that actor Vijayakanth was murdered and urged Udyanidhi Stalin to investigate the death. The director’s post raised eyebrows, leading to a significant online uproar.
Putheran’s statements, however, have not been widely perceived as controversial, as both netizens and officials consider them in the context of his health issues. On October 30, Putheran revealed that he had self-diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and expressed his intention to retire from filmmaking. Although he later deleted the post and remained silent about his career, the director mentioned that he did not want to quit cinema entirely due to his health uncertainties.
Despite his intermittent social media activity promoting films, Putheran has resurfaced with posts questioning the deaths of Kollywood stars and making murder allegations. Notably, he called on actor Ajith Kumar to provide a public explanation regarding his rumored entry into politics.
In response to these posts, fans and netizens have rallied behind the director, refraining from ridiculing him and emphasizing the need for a proper health diagnosis. While some speculated about a potential hacking of his account, many urged against spreading controversy and called for understanding Putheran’s health condition of autism spectrum disorder.
