Ryan Reynolds has expressed his gratitude towards Fox’s Marvel universe, reflecting on its unique and daring contributions to the Deadpool franchise. In an Instagram post, Reynolds shared his appreciation for the studio where Deadpool was first introduced. He emphasized that the new film, Deadpool & Wolverine, is not just a transition into the MCU but a heartfelt farewell to the era and environment that shaped the character. “We are forever grateful to the fun, weird, uneven, and risky world of 20th Century Fox. It was our origin story and we wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Reynolds wrote. He also extended thanks to Kevin Feige and Disney for allowing them to continue the journey.
Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 included the rights to the Deadpool franchise. The integration of Deadpool into the MCU began with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, which has achieved significant box office success. The film has secured the position of the sixth highest opening at the domestic box office with $211 million and has set a new record for the highest opening weekend for an R-rated movie.
Reynolds accompanied his tribute with a 2015 cast photo featuring some of the prominent stars from Fox’s Marvel era, including Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Miles Teller, Evan Peters, and Channing Tatum, who was set to play Gambit—a project ultimately canceled by Disney.
