In a recent revelation by director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his candid insights, details emerged about Ranbir Kapoor’s stance during the filming of the highly acclaimed movie ‘Animal.’ This marked their first collaboration, and despite a harmonious working relationship, a noteworthy disagreement surfaced.
Vanga, sharing the behind-the-scenes dynamics, disclosed that Ranbir Kapoor, often hailed as a Bollywood powerhouse, expressed unease with the ‘superstar’ tag associated with his name in the film’s credits. Speaking to Komal Nahta in a recent interview, Vanga recounted the incident, emphasizing Kapoor’s resistance to the label.
According to Vanga, Kapoor, while cooperative in every aspect of the film, voiced his discomfort specifically regarding the ‘superstar’ tag featured in the audio teaser. Kapoor reportedly conveyed that such tags are more prevalent in South Indian cinema than in Bollywood. Despite Kapoor’s objection, Vanga initially persisted with the idea, showcasing his conviction.
However, the director eventually conceded before the poster release, acknowledging Ranbir Kapoor’s undeniable stature as a megastar in the industry. Vanga defended his decision by pointing to the superstar aura that Kapoor carries, evident during movie screenings in Hyderabad, where audiences fervently cheer for him. He emphasized that only a star of Ranbir’s caliber could command such adoration.
In justifying the unconventional move to label Kapoor as a ‘superstar,’ Vanga asserted, “No one asked me why we gave him that tag. He is not on social media. If you want to see him, you have to give money over the counter and see him (in theaters). He doesn’t do many ads either, so that’s a star na.” Vanga stood by his conviction, highlighting Kapoor’s unique appeal that transcends typical industry norms.
