Sandy Bresler, renowned agent and founder of two talent agencies, passed away today at the age of 87 following a brief illness, according to a representative for his family. Bresler, born on January 20, 1937, began his career in 1960 as a secretary at William Morris and later established the independent boutique agency Bresler-Kelly & Associates with John Kelly in 1983. He also worked at ICM before founding Bresler, Wolff, Cota & Livingston, which later became known as the Artists Agency.
Bresler’s career was marked by his long and productive relationships, particularly his representation of Jack Nicholson for over 60 years. His influence extended beyond his agencies as he served on the board of the Association of Talent Agents (ATA) for nearly 30 years, including more than a decade as its president and leader. Karen Stuart, ATA’s Executive Director, praised Bresler’s dedication and visionary leadership, noting his role in guiding the association through significant growth and transformation. His commitment to the talent agency profession significantly advanced the interests of ATA members and elevated the industry.
Bresler was also a lifelong member of the Motion Picture Academy. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; son Eric; daughter Jennifer Galperson and her husband Rob; and twin grandsons Brandon and Jonah Galperson. A funeral service will be held at noon on August 6 at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
