Reports earlier confirmed that Ajay Devgn was set to kick off ‘Son of Sardar 2’ with Mrunal Thakur and Sanjay Dutt, and photos of Mrunal from the Scotland shoot went viral. The film was initially slated to feature a showdown between Dutt and Devgn. However, recent updates reveal that Sanjay Dutt has been replaced in the film due to a visa issue.
According to Mid-day, Dutt’s visa application was denied because of his 1993 arrest under the TADA and Arms Act for possession of illegal weapons linked to the Bombay bombings. Although Dutt completed his prison sentence in 2016, the incident continues to affect his visa applications and film opportunities. Ravi Kishan will now take Dutt’s place in ‘Son of Sardar 2’.
A source cited by the news portal noted that despite multiple attempts, Dutt has never been granted a UK visa since his 1993 arrest. The ‘Son of Sardar 2’ shoot would have marked his first visit to the UK. Following the visa denial, Ajay Devgn’s team opted to replace Dutt with Kishan, who recently garnered praise for his role in ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
The situation also raises concerns about Dutt’s involvement in ‘Housefull 5’, which is scheduled to shoot in London. Reports indicate that Dutt’s scenes will be filmed in Mumbai while the rest of the cast works in London.
Sanjay Dutt’s latest film, ‘Ghudchadhi’, is set to release on August 9, where he will reunite with Raveena Tandon.
