Actress Shruti Haasan has sparked a conversation on social media following a candid Q&A session on Instagram where she addressed what she termed as ‘micro racism’. Born and raised in Tamil Nadu, Shruti responded sharply when a follower asked her to say something in a South Indian accent, stating, “Ok… This kind of micro racism is not okay. It’s also not okay when you stereotype us with ‘idli dosa sambar’. And no, your imitation isn’t accurate, so please don’t try to be funny. In a South Indian way, I would say ‘மூடிட்டு போடா’ (Shut up and get lost).”
The incident comes in the wake of recent backlash against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who referred to actor Ram Charan as ‘idly vada’ during a pre-wedding celebration. While Ram Charan opted not to respond, reports suggest his makeup artist, Zeba Hassan, walked out in protest over the remark.
Shruti Haasan, known for her roles in films like ‘Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire’, is currently busy shooting for Shaneil Deo’s ‘Dacoit’ alongside actor Adivi Sesh.
