The film “Sorkkavasaal”, starring RJ Balaji and directed by Siddharth Vishwanath, produced jointly by Swipe Right Studios and Think Studios, has been released today. R.J. Balaji has starred in a completely different storyline. Let’s see how this film, based on a true story, fares in the review.
Story Line
Selvaragavan, a prisoner in the Central Prison of Madras, is controlling the entire city of Chennai from within the prison. He is involved in various crimes including extortion and drug trafficking. While the story of Selva Raghavan’s empire unfolds on one side, on the other, the story of RJ Balaji begins. RJ Balaji, who runs a small eatery called “Pavan”, is filled with dreams of opening a new hotel, marrying the woman he loves, and taking good care of his mother.
Balaaji and Selva Raghavan, who are suddenly arrested by the police at this time, are being brought to the Chennai prison. Why was RJ Balaaji, who was minding his own business, arrested? What is Selva Raghavan’s connection to this? What happened in the end is the story of the film.
“Film Analysis
Director Siddharth Vishwanath has directed this film based on the riots that took place in the Madras Central Jail in 1999.
The chosen storyline and the way it was brought to life in a thrilling action-packed screenplay are commendable. There is no dull moment. The character development is excellent.”
RJ Balaji, who has entertained us only as a comedian so far, has showcased his other side in this film for the first time. His acting in the film, portraying the hardships, unspeakable torture, fear, and anger he faces in prison, is truly remarkable. Many people who watched the film “Vadachennai” might have been surprised to see such things happening in prison. Similarly, director Siddharth has included many surprises in “Sorkavasal” as well.
If politics exists outside prison, the film also shows how politics can be played even within the confines of a prison for registration. The sudden arrest of Balaji, his state upon entering prison, how the prison transformed him, the changes that occurred in his life, and ultimately the way his thoughts changed, all make for an enjoyable character arc.
The acting of Selvaraghavan, Saniya Ayyappan, Natty Natarajan, Sharf Yu Theen, and Balaji Sakthivel is excellent. The background music is the biggest strength of the film. Music composer Christo Xavier has provided amazing background music for each scene. Cinematography, editing, and technical aspects are excellent.
“However, it is unclear if this film will connect with everyone, except for the thriller audience. This is the film’s minus point.
Plus Point
R.J. Balaji, and all other actors’ performances
Siddharth’s direction and screenplay
Character design
Background music
Minus Point
Whether the film will connect with everyone is the film’s minus point.”
In essence, the gates of heaven open unexpectedly, and using them is a blessing, while not using them is a curse.
