Fremantle has signed a new deal with Italian director Stefano Sollima, known for his work on “Gomorrah.” The agreement is with AlterEgo, a production company Sollima co-founded with Gina Gardini and Ludovico Purgatori. This first-look deal will involve Fremantle and AlterEgo collaborating on a series of original films and drama series. This partnership follows a similar deal Fremantle recently made with Kristen Stewart’s Nevermind Pictures.
Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle’s Group COO & CEO for Continental Europe, and Christian Vesper, CEO of Global Drama, will work closely with the AlterEgo team to develop this new slate of projects. AlterEgo is best known for Sollima’s film “Adagio,” which premiered at the 80th Venice Film Festival and won Best Score at the David di Donatello awards. The film, produced with Fremantle-owned The Apartment, follows a group of aging gangsters who reunite to confront corrupt cops.
Currently, AlterEgo is producing the TV drama “Il Mostro,” directed by Sollima for Netflix and also produced with The Apartment. Scrosati praised Sollima’s unique vision and described Gardini as “a force of nature” and Purgatori as “a real talent in the industry.” The AlterEgo team expressed excitement about continuing their collaboration with Fremantle.
In addition to its deals with Sollima and Stewart, Fremantle has partnerships with several prominent industry figures, including Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín’s Fabula, Luca Guadagnino, Paolo Sorrentino, Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz and Polly Stokes’ Astral Projection, Edward Berger and his label Nine Hours, Johan Renck and Michael Parets’ Sinestra, and Patrick Daly’s Caledonia Productions. Fremantle also maintains ongoing collaborations with writers and directors like Michael Winterbottom.
