In a recent interview, actor Sterling K Brown discussed his nomination for the upcoming 2024 Oscars, expressing admiration for fellow nominee Robert Downey Jr. and acknowledging the tough competition in the Best Supporting Actor category. Brown, nominated for his role in “American Fiction,” praised Downey Jr.’s acting prowess, predicting him to win and describing him as “incredibly deserving.”
Competing alongside Robert De Niro, Ryan Gosling, and Mark Ruffalo in the same category, Brown expressed gratitude for being nominated alongside such esteemed actors. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, he shared his contentment with simply being in the room with his fellow nominees.
During the interview, Brown mentioned his perspective on the potential Oscar winner, suggesting that Colman Domingo might take home the award. Despite affirmations from the host and other guests that he still stands a good chance, Brown remained humble, stating he is “totally fine” if he doesn’t win.
Reflecting on his role in “American Fiction,” Brown praised the script for its ability to critique and challenge the entertainment industry’s portrayal of Black life for mass consumption. He emphasized the film’s power to address limitations in representation while offering alternative stories for broader audiences. Brown previously noted that the Cord Jefferson-directed movie, based on Percival Everett’s novel “Erasure,” featured one of the best scripts he had ever read.
