Controversial Film ‘Vyooham’ Faces Legal Battle in Telangana High Court
Director Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Vyooham,’ which received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), is caught in a legal tussle initiated by producer Dasari Kirankumar in the Telangana High Court. The case was heard by justices Alok Aradhe and Anilkumar Jukanti on Thursday.
The petitioner, Kirankumar, contested the judgment, arguing that the political party initiating the petition lacked eligibility. The single judge ruled against the cinematography law and emphasized the need for a clear decision on the film’s release, urging against relying on trial and error, such as watching trailers. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Narasimha Sharma, representing CBFC, presented arguments during the proceedings.
The Telangana High Court had previously halted the film’s release on December 28, citing the Revising Committee’s failure to provide reasons for issuing a Certificate of Exhibition. The court noted that the certificate was granted despite no significant deletions or alterations being made.
Following a comprehensive review, the CBFC’s Revising Committee, functioning as a grievance redressal mechanism, issued a revised certificate. Initially denied due to irregularities, the court instructed the Central Board of Film Certification, Revising Committee, and the film’s producer to submit all relevant records for consideration.
The movie is said to revolve around the events leading to the demise of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and the subsequent political journey of his son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who currently holds the position of Chief Minister.
