In a recent announcement, it has been revealed that a prequel to Richard Donner’s iconic 1976 supernatural horror film, ‘The Omen,’ is scheduled for release in theaters on April 5 next year. The studio has also unveiled a first-look image of the upcoming film.
According to the logline, the prequel begins with the story of a young American woman sent to Rome to dedicate her life to the church. However, her journey takes a dark turn as she confronts a malevolent force that challenges her faith. As she unravels a sinister conspiracy, the plot aims to explore the origins of the impending birth of evil incarnate.
The star-studded cast of the film includes Nell Tiger Free, Tawfeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy. Arkasha Stevenson is at the helm of the project as the filmmaker, with a story by credit to Ben Jacoby. The script is co-credited to Tim Smith & Stevenson and Keith Thomas. Producers for the film are David S. Goyer and Keith Levine.
In the original 1976 film, Gregory Peck portrayed an ambassador who becomes convinced that his young son embodies the Antichrist. The success of ‘The Omen’ spawned two sequels, a 2006 remake starring Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles, and a one-season TV series titled ‘Damien’ on A&E. The prospect of a prequel has been on the radar since 2016, as reported by 20th Century.
