In a much-anticipated move, the iconic Malayalam film ‘Premam,’ initially released in 2015, is set to make a grand comeback in Tamil Nadu. Directed by Alphonse Puthren, the film boasts a stellar cast, including Nivin Pauly, Madonna Sebastian, Sai Pallavi, and Anupama Parameswaran. As per reports from India Today, the movie has been carefully selected for a re-release in select theaters across Tamil Nadu, with booking details set to be unveiled shortly.
Scheduled to hit theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day 2024, ‘Premam’ had previously enjoyed immense success in Tamil Nadu, running for over 200 days and earning a status as a beloved cult classic. Alphonse Puthren’s directorial masterpiece, following in the footsteps of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Alaipayuthey,’ garnered a massive fan base for romantic dramas.
The re-release of ‘Premam’ in Tamil Nadu is slated for February 1, as confirmed by numerous theater owners who took to social media to announce the film’s inclusion in their screening schedules.
The trend of re-releasing old Tamil films has gained significant traction in recent times, capturing the hearts of fans. With the success stories of Dhanush’s ‘3’ and Jiiva’s ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ in December 2023 still fresh, expectations are high that ‘Premam’ will generate a similar buzz among audiences.
In addition to ‘Premam,’ several other Tamil romantic dramas are rumored to follow suit with re-releases in theaters, adding to the nostalgic wave that continues to sweep through the industry.
