Renowned Southern actor Vijay, celebrated for his string of blockbuster hits, exhibited a remarkable gesture of generosity in the aftermath of his 2013 release, ‘Thalaivaa.’ Despite the film being a fan-favorite, it failed to meet financial expectations, leaving producers in a predicament.
In a recent interview, esteemed producer Ramesh disclosed that ‘Thalaivaa’ did not yield the anticipated profits, posing a challenge for the film’s backers. Upon learning of the situation, Vijay, displaying a commendable sense of responsibility, voluntarily returned a substantial portion of his remuneration. The actor reportedly handed back Rs 6 crore out of his Rs 12 crore salary, demonstrating his commitment to alleviating the financial burden on the producers.
Ramesh, in his statements, lauded Vijay’s benevolent spirit and affirmed that the actor’s actions prevented any adverse consequences for the film’s stakeholders. Directed by AL Vijay, ‘Thalaivaa’ stars Vijay and Amala Paul in lead roles, portraying the narrative of a laid-back youth evolving into a revolutionary leader.
The film faced controversy due to its title and tagline, ‘Time To Lead,’ prompting the ruling party in Tamil Nadu to ban its release within the state. Despite a delayed start in Tamil Nadu, ‘Thalaivaa’ eventually garnered a respectable box office performance.
