In a press event held in Los Angeles on Tuesday, actor Bradley Cooper shared his thoughts on the seven Oscar nominations garnered by his directorial venture, ‘Maestro.’ The film secured nominations in categories such as ‘Best Picture,’ ‘Best Actor,’ and ‘Best Original Screenplay,’ with three nods attributed to Cooper himself.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Cooper stated, “We are all so grateful to be recognized along with all of these incredible works of art this year. And the performances from every actor who I so admire. Thank you to Jamie, Alex & Nina Bernstein for allowing their parents’ stories to be out there in the world and thank you to the Academy. We are very honored to be included.”
According to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Bradley Cooper joins an exclusive group as the fourth actor-director to win multiple ‘Best Actor’ nods at the Oscars.
Apart from ‘Maestro,’ Cooper previously directed and starred as the male lead in the 2018 film ‘A Star Is Born,’ which marked the Hollywood debut of Grammy-winning singer Lady Gaga.
Joining Cooper in the league of Hollywood actor-directors with multiple ‘Best Actor’ nods at the Oscars are Laurence Olivier for ‘Henry V,’ ‘Hamlet,’ and ‘Richard III,’ Warren Beatty for ‘Heaven Can Wait’ and ‘Reds,’ and Clint Eastwood for ‘Unforgiven’ and ‘Million Dollar Baby.’
Additionally, Cooper received three BAFTA nominations last week, including one for ‘Best Director,’ the only category in which he was not nominated for an Oscar this year. Despite this, he expressed no disappointment, stating, “I really didn’t know that we were going to get anything today, so the fact that we got seven nominations is incredible.”
Reflecting on the BAFTA nominations, he added, “That really meant a lot to us. You know the BAFTAs are incredible, and I’m excited. I just get excited that we get to go and we get to see each other.”
