n the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung’s onslaught on December 4, Chennai, the capital city, is grappling with widespread flooding following an unprecedented rainfall of around 500 mm. Many areas are submerged, leaving residents stranded in their homes.
Actor Vishal, taking to social media, expressed his concerns about the city’s drainage infrastructure, directing his message to Ms. Priya Rajan, the Mayor of Chennai, and other officers of the Greater Chennai Corporation, including the Commissioner. Vishal, in a video post on his official social media account (@VishalKOfficial), conveyed his hopes for the safety of city officials and questioned the efficacy of the stormwater drain project.
“Dear Ms. Priya Rajan and all officers of Greater Chennai Corporation, I hope you and your families are safe. As citizens living in the same city, we are not in the same position. The condition after eight years is pathetic. We will continue to help with supplies, but this time, let’s see all constituency representatives come out and instill hope rather than fear. Awaiting is not a miracle but a DUTY to citizens. God bless,” wrote Vishal.
Despite his bold stance against the government’s response, Vishal has become a target for online trolls criticizing him for engaging in politics during a natural disaster. The actor has urged everyone to stand united during this challenging time for the city.
As Chennai grapples with the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, Vishal’s outspoken commentary adds a layer of scrutiny to the ongoing relief efforts, highlighting the intersection of governance, public sentiment, and the challenges posed by a natural disaster.
