Australian actress Geraldine Viswanathan has been announced as the latest addition to the cast of Marvel Studios’ ‘Thunderbolts,’ stepping in for Ayo Edebiri, who had to exit the film due to scheduling conflicts arising from last year’s dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, as reported. Viswanathan joins the ensemble following the recent inclusion of Lewis Pullman, who replaced Steven Yeun for similar scheduling reasons.
Despite reaching out for comments, Marvel remained silent on the matter. Viswanathan was initially revealed as part of the cast during Disney’s D23 event last year, joining a star-studded lineup including Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
Marvel’s upcoming tentpole, produced by studio president Kevin Feige, will be directed by Jake Schreier. The film is based on the comic series focusing on a team of criminals undertaking government-assigned missions, though specific details about the storyline remain scarce.
Geraldine Viswanathan’s career took off with the 2018 teen comedy ‘Blockers.’ Since then, she has starred in notable films such as ‘Bad Education’ (2019), ‘The Broken Hearts Gallery’ (2020), and ‘The Beanie Bubble’ (2023), alongside Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook, Hugh Jackman, and Allison Janney. On the small screen, she featured in the comedy anthology series ‘Miracle Workers’ on TBS, sharing the screen with Daniel Radcliffe, Steve Buscemi, and Karan Soni.
Upcoming projects for Viswanathan include roles opposite Margaret Qualley in Ethan Coen’s ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ and the Amazon comedy ‘You’re Cordially Invited,’ co-starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
The highly anticipated ‘Thunderbolts’ movie is scheduled to premiere in July 2025, according to reports.
