Australian actress Milly Alcock, renowned for her portrayal of the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon,’ is set to headline the upcoming DC Universe film ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ directed by James Gunn and produced by Peter Safran.
Alcock secured the coveted role, triumphing over contenders Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly. The film is adapted from the DC comic book series of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, featuring the iconic character Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, possessing superhuman abilities and vulnerability to Kryptonite. Kara, originally from Krypton, embarks on her superhero journey on Earth after witnessing her cousin Kal-El’s transformation into Superman.
Screenwriter Ana Nogueira, known for her role in ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ was appointed in November to craft the screenplay for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ although the project is yet to secure a director.
James Gunn expressed his enthusiasm for Alcock’s involvement in the DC Universe, praising her talent and suitability for the role on his Instagram account. Gunn’s post highlighted his awareness of Alcock’s acting prowess since ‘House of the Dragon’ and commended her auditions for the character envisioned by King, Evely, and Nogueira.
The announcement of Alcock’s casting was made by Gunn on Instagram, but the debut date for her superhero role remains undisclosed.
Gunn and Peter Safran introduced ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ at a studio press event on January 31, 2023. Milly Alcock, hailing from Australia, commenced her acting journey as a teenager in Australian television before gaining recognition for her role in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series, where she portrayed the ambitious Targaryen princess with widespread acclaim.
