In a significant departure from his usual comedic roles in Tamil films, actor Sathish is set to take on a leading role in the upcoming film ‘Vithaikkaran.’ Directed by Venki, the movie features a cast including Sathish, John Vijay, and Madhusudhan Rao. The storyline revolves around Sathish portraying a magician who aids a gang in executing a heist.
Sharing his insights with Indian Express, Sathish discussed his experience filming ‘Vithaikkaran,’ emphasizing that the film goes beyond dark humor and requires him to step out of his comfort zone to approach his character in a more serious manner. He attributed this transformation to lessons learned during his time with Crazy Mohan’s theater group before venturing into films.
Expressing his admiration for lead roles over side characters or comedians, Sathish highlighted the versatility that protagonists have to portray various emotions. Citing examples from Kollywood, he underscored how the clever wit of heroes contributes significantly to keeping the audience engaged. However, he acknowledged the risk involved, cautioning against overdoing such roles, as it could lead to unfavorable audience reactions.
Looking ahead in the Tamil film industry, Sathish expressed a desire to experiment with a range of roles, emphasizing that being a prominent part of the story is more important to him than exclusively playing lead roles. He emphasized the pivotal role of the storyline in completing a film, stating that the story itself is the real hero.
Discussing his aspirations for interesting and diverse roles, Sathish cited Vijay Sethupathi’s character in ‘Pizza’ and Ashok Selvan’s role in ‘Por Thozhil’ as examples of characters he envisions playing in the future.
