Richard Franklin’s television career took off with the British soap opera ‘Crossroads,’ where he portrayed Joe Townsend, making his debut in 1969. Two years later, he made his mark in ‘Doctor Who’ as UNIT Captain Mike Yates in “Terror of the Autons,” alongside Jon Pertwee, who starred as the Third Doctor. Even after his appearance in “Planet of the Spiders,” Franklin continued to portray Mike Yates in specials, spinoffs, audio plays, and in the novel he authored, “The Killing Stone,” where his character took center stage.
