Thiruvananthapuram-born actress Arthana Binu, known for her versatility across South Indian cinema, recently made a comeback to Malayalam films with the Tovino Thomas-starrer “Anveshippin Kandethum.” After taking a hiatus to study in Canada, she returned to the big screen with the Tamil film “Vasco Da Gama” alongside Nakkul. However, it was “Anveshippin Kandethum” that hit the screens first, marking her re-entry into Malayalam cinema.
Arthana shared her experience of landing the role in “Anveshippin Kandethum,” revealing that scriptwriter Jinu Abraham recommended her for the film after seeing her in a previous project. “I don’t get many offers from Malayalam, so when the casting director called, I was very excited,” she expressed.
The young actress, who has expanded her horizons by working in various South Indian film industries, is currently working on an as-yet-untitled Telugu film. The film also marks the Telugu debut of Tamil actor Vetri. Despite facing initial language barriers while working on her first Telugu project, Arthana has now become fairly fluent in the language. “When I did my first other language project, which was in Telugu, I was lost. But once I reached the set, things changed. I started trying to talk in Telugu and now I can speak well, albeit with small errors. I might dub for my current film,” she said.
Arthana, who values continuous learning, enjoys taking breaks from her acting career to pursue her studies. “I like taking gaps to study. I get a different perspective which is motivating. My topics vary, from social work to journalism and also a counselling psychology diploma,” she shared.
Despite her busy schedule, Arthana remains rooted to her hometown, Thiruvananthapuram. “I love hanging out in Kanakakunnu. I like going to our beaches, be it Kovalam or Shanghumugham,” she said. A self-proclaimed foodie, she enjoys exploring new eateries in the city but admits that her favorite place will always be her home. “No matter how many wonderful places we have here, my favorite is still my home. I just want to huddle in my room,” she added.
