In a tragic incident in New York City, actress and stuntwoman Carrie Bernans, renowned for her roles in ‘The Colour Purple,’ ‘Black Panther,’ and ‘Avengers Infinity War/End Game,’ was critically injured in an alleged hit-and-run at 1:30 AM on Monday. The incident occurred when a driver crashed into an outdoor dining shed at Chirp, a Peruvian restaurant in midtown Manhattan, injuring Bernans and eight others.
The driver, attempting to escape, reversed and collided with another car before being apprehended by law enforcement officers. Fortunately, Bernans’ newborn son was not with her during the incident but was safely with her family in a hotel. Currently in stable condition, Bernans is undergoing surgery to address her injuries. Her mother, Patricia Lee, shared details of the traumatic incident on Instagram, revealing that Bernans is in a challenging state.
Lee explained, “She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, in his early 40s, was trying to escape a hit-and-run and ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend and she were walking near. It ended up knocking her unconscious and pinning her under the stand.” Despite suffering broken bones, fractures, and chipped teeth, Bernans is grateful to be alive.
Nine people, including three police officers, were injured in the attempted escape from the hit-and-run. The suspect was later apprehended by the police. Despite the chaos, Bernans maintains a sense of gratitude for life and remains hopeful for a positive recovery. Lee extended thanks to first responders, police, strangers, friends, and family who have offered support during this challenging time.
