Chad Michael Murray has expressed his interest in returning to the world of “Freaky Friday” for the upcoming sequel. In a recent interview, the actor shared his enthusiasm for reprising his role of Jake alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
Speaking to E! News while promoting his latest project, “Mother of the Bride,” Murray stated, “If Jake has a story to tell, I’d be there in a heartbeat. Are you kidding me? Just to watch Jamie and Lindsay, to go back to work… To watch all that energy that Jamie brings to set… Hollywood royalty, period.”
Murray reminisced about the experience of working with Curtis on the set of the original 2003 film, noting how much he had learned from her. He expressed his eagerness to participate in the sequel, emphasizing, “If I had the opportunity, I would just dial in.”
Directed by Nisha Ganatra, the sequel is slated to begin shooting this summer in Los Angeles. Jordan Weiss penned the script, with Andrew Gunn, the producer of the original film, set to produce alongside Kristin Burr.
Based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, “Freaky Friday” follows the story of a mother and daughter who switch bodies after consuming a magical Chinese fortune cookie. Curtis and Lohan portrayed the iconic mother-daughter duo in the 2003 adaptation, with Mark Harmon portraying Curtis’ fiancé.
The 2003 film marked the third adaptation of Rodgers’ novel, following a 1976 version starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, and a 1995 television movie featuring Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffmann. Additionally, Disney Channel adapted “Freaky Friday” into a musical film in 2018, starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.
