With Chiyaan Vikram’s upcoming film Thangalaan set to release on August 15, 2024, and Suriya’s Kanguva scheduled for October 10, 2024, the makers of both films are facing a significant hurdle. Studio Green, the production company behind these films, has been directed by the Madras High Court to deposit ₹1 crore for each movie before their theatrical releases.
The court’s order came in response to an execution petition filed by an official assignee, appointed to manage the estate of insolvent realtor and financier Arjunlal Sunderdas. The official assignee noted that KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green owed Sunderdas a sum of ₹10,35,00,000. Consequently, the court, presided over by Justices G Jayachandran and CV Karthikeyan, issued the directive.
The court has mandated that ₹1 crore be deposited before August 14, 2024, for Thangalaan and a compliance report be filed with the High Court on the same day. Additionally, another ₹1 crore must be paid before the release of Kanguva.
