Actor Diana Penty has launched a new campaign with PETA India during Be Kind to Animals Week, aiming to raise awareness about the plight of dogs awaiting adoption in animal shelters. The campaign urges people to refrain from purchasing animals from pet shops or breeders.
Penty, who often shares pictures of her adopted dog, Vicky, with her fans and followers, emphasizes the joy of adopting Indian street dogs. She encourages individuals with the necessary resources and love to consider providing a home for a shelter animal.
Highlighting the harsh realities faced by stray cats and dogs in India, Penty emphasizes the challenges they encounter, including hunger, accidents, and abuse. She underscores the importance of adoption in alleviating the homeless-animal crisis. “Adopting Vicky was the best decision of my life, and I can tell you from experience that Indie dogs are a delight! They’re loving, playful, intelligent, and resilient,” says Penty. “My friends at PETA India and I are asking everyone who has the time, space, resources, and a lot of love in their hearts to help give an animal a new life by adopting one from the street or from a local shelter,” she added.
PETA India echoes Penty’s sentiments, cautioning against purchasing “pedigree” dogs, which are often prone to various health issues due to selective breeding. In contrast, Indian “community” dogs are described as resilient and free from predisposed health problems.
The campaign serves as a call to action for animal lovers to contribute to the welfare of street animals by opting for adoption rather than supporting the pet trade. With Penty’s advocacy and PETA India’s support, the initiative seeks to promote compassion and responsible pet ownership in the country.
