Mollywood actor Dileep Raises Concerns Over Impact of Political Correctness on Comedy Films
In a recent interview with Red FM, renowned Mollywood actor Dileep shared his apprehensions regarding the encroachment of political correctness on the creative freedom of writers and filmmakers, specifically within the domain of comedy films.
During the conversation, Dileep voiced his opinion that the increasing focus on political correctness is hindering artists’ ability to express themselves freely in the comedy genre.
“We have reached a time where expressing anything has become challenging. People caution me against certain dialogues, citing concerns about body shaming and potential criticism. I question whether political correctness is a law or just a set of opinions. If it were a law, we could abide by it without objection. Let political correctness take its course. If I am unaffected by someone mocking me, why impose restrictions?” remarked Dileep during the interview.
The actor stressed that imposing such limitations on films could lead to a decline in entertainment quality, making movies less engaging and more dry. Drawing an example from the film ‘Kunjikoonan,’ Dileep highlighted a character engaging in a form of body shaming, yet he argued that there is a comedic essence to such dialogues.
Meanwhile, Dileep, following the success of the comedy film ‘Voice of Sathyanathan,’ is gearing up for the release of the highly anticipated crime thriller, ‘Thankamani,’ scheduled to hit theaters on March 7.
