In a recent interview, director Vipul Amrutlal Shah candidly addressed the shortcomings of the 2010 film ‘Action Replayy,’ starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Shah attributed the movie’s lackluster performance to various factors, including his own directorial lapses. He acknowledged his lack of expertise in directing a period film, admitting, “I realized that my competence as a director in handling a period film was lacking.” Shah took full responsibility for the film’s failure, emphasizing that the blame rested solely upon him.
One significant factor contributing to the movie’s downfall, according to Shah, was Akshay Kumar’s unconventional appearance. Despite Kumar expressing concerns about the extreme experimentation with his look, Shah insisted on proceeding with the unconventional aesthetic. Kumar himself had voiced his concerns, stating, “Vipul, now you are taking the experiment to the extreme.” Shah acknowledged the consequences of this decision, noting, “Firstly, because of that look, people didn’t come to the theatres, thinking that we’ve given such a good-looking actor strange teeth and an odd hairdo. The film didn’t open.” However, despite the setback, the film’s music gained popularity.
Meanwhile, attention has shifted to Akshay Kumar’s upcoming action flick ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,’ set to release on Eid, eagerly awaited by fans.
