In a recent interview with the media, acclaimed American actor Emma Stone expressed her commitment to refrain from making any further jokes about her friend Taylor Swift. Stone acknowledged the lesson she learned after facing backlash for playfully referring to Swift as an ‘a–hole’ during the 2024 Golden Globes in January.
Addressing the incident with Variety, Stone stated, “I definitely won’t make a joke like that again… because I saw headlines that pulled it out of context.” She admitted her mistake, pointing to herself and remarking, “What a dope.” Swift, who was present at the Golden Globes, had enthusiastically applauded Stone when she won the award for Best Feature Actress in a Comedy or Musical for ‘Poor Things.’
Backstage, Stone humorously commented on Swift, saying, “What an a–hole,” and highlighting their nearly 20-year friendship. Swift, nominated for a Golden Globe herself, attended the event and was supportive of Stone’s success.
Stone, who won an Oscar for her role in the offbeat comedy ‘Poor Things,’ made the playful remarks about Swift, whose concert film, ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,’ was also nominated. The award ultimately went to the film ‘Barbie.’
The friendship between Swift and Stone dates back to their meeting at the Young Hollywood Awards in 2008. Over the years, they have attended various events together, including the New York premiere of ‘Poor Things’ in December 2023.
While Stone rarely discusses her friendship with Swift, she previously mentioned to Vanity Fair in June 2023 how the ‘Anti-Hero’ singer had assisted her in securing tickets to an Eras Tour event. Stone emphasized the longevity of their friendship, stating, “I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get.” She added that Swift is “a wonderful friend.”
