In a recent development, the highly anticipated film ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban,’ starring Mohanlal and directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, has sparked varied reactions from audiences, prompting director Sajid Yahiya to address the feedback.
Yahiya took to Facebook to express his concern about the potential impact of negative reviews on the dedicated crew behind the film. He underscored the collaborative effort and commitment put into the movie’s creation, expressing disappointment at individuals who, instead of offering constructive criticism, appear to be attempting to undermine the film across various cinema groups.
“When you see a person posting three or four posts in different cinema groups to say that a movie is not good, you will feel like ‘damn! Does he have any previous animosity towards the crew members of this, Lord” I will remember! Wasting so much time and energy he is trying to destroy a sculpture for nothing…Nothing is to be made new or anything that will be useful to anyone!!! Saw so many people yesterday and today!” Yahiya lamented in his note.
Questioning the validity of reviews that simply declare a movie as “not good” without providing specific insights, Yahiya stated, “I will call a review only an accurate review that takes about one aspect of the movie… Directing a story and making it a movie is a lot of hard work. Those who worked hard for it, that visual feast was valued like their own child. How could they be wrong in saying it’s the greatest!! But no one in that lineup from light boy to director is forcefully bringing us audiences to the theaters… Only giving the fruits of their sweat into our hands. We too have to decide its fate.”
Yahiya concluded his note by emphasizing the subjective nature of preferences and interests. He urged the audience to remember the hard work put into a film before hastily passing judgment, stating, “Likes and interests are clearly based…! Someone else may like what I don’t like… So instead of shouting don’t watch, don’t waste money, saying ‘I don’t like it’ doesn’t ruin a movie… It seems that Malayalees need to remember that hard work for a moment before killing a movie in the name of review… I think a little more respect can be given to that hard work.”
The film ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban’ has been described as an action-packed Mohanlal starrer in the signature style of Lijo Jose Pellissery. Despite being labeled as ‘Not everyone’s cup of tea,’ the movie managed to rake in over Rs 10 crores in just four days.
