Renowned filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery responded to criticism surrounding his latest film, ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban,’ at a recent press meeting. Addressing negative reviews, Pellissery expressed confusion about the ongoing negative campaign against the movie and acknowledged the significant impact of public reception on potential sequels.
The director, known for his unique storytelling, emphasized the importance of public acceptance for the possibility of a sequel or prequel to ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban.’ Pellissery urged viewers not to form opinions solely based on others’ perspectives, stating, “The opinions of those who watch the morning shows that form a general opinion among the others too.” He also questioned the necessity of negative campaigns for a movie.
Describing ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban’ as a fantasy-style film told in a fable-like manner, Pellissery noted that it is not powered by a Ferrari car’s engine but instead features hidden layers, beautiful scenes, and intricate sounds embedded within the tale. He encouraged audiences to experience these elements in theaters.
Addressing critiques that characters in the film seem incomplete, Pellissery explained that intentional layers in the characters were planned to be unveiled in the second part. Despite negative reviews, the director affirmed his stance, stating, “Still no plans to change, no plans to impress.”
In terms of box office performance, ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban’ reportedly collected Rs 9.7 crore on its third day of release, featuring Mohanlal in a leading role.
