Master filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has unveiled the inaugural glimpse of his highly anticipated movie “Megalopolis,” set to debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The futuristic narrative, reminiscent of the Roman Empire, centers on architect Caesar, portrayed by Adam Driver, striving to reconstruct New York City post-devastation into a utopia. The revealed still captures Driver’s character engrossed in plans for the rejuvenation, accompanied by Nathalie Emmanuel as Julia Cicero, daughter of Mayor Cicero.
Coppola, acclaimed for classics like “The Godfather” series and “Apocalypse Now,” shared the image via his official Instagram handle, expressing his delight in providing a sneak peek of the project.
Scheduled for a gala premiere on May 17 at Cannes, “Megalopolis” marks Coppola’s passion-driven, self-financed venture. The ensemble cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, and Talia Shire, with Coppola handling directing, writing, and production duties. Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch, and Michael Bederman join as producers.
