In a recent interview with Deadline, renowned Hollywood actor George Clooney disclosed surprising details about the life and career of the late Matthew Perry, who passed away at the age of 54 just over a month ago. The two actors had been friends since their teenage years, and Clooney revealed that Perry, known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom “Friends,” “wasn’t happy” with his success in the series.
Clooney, reminiscing about their early days in the entertainment industry, shared that Perry initially expressed aspirations to secure a role in a sitcom, believing it would bring him unparalleled happiness. However, even after achieving significant success with “Friends,” Perry reportedly grappled with dissatisfaction. Clooney, who was unaware of the extent of Perry’s struggle with addiction, expressed the difficulty of witnessing Perry’s unhappiness on the Warner Bros. lot where they were filming.
The Hollywood star also acknowledged Perry’s undisclosed battle with addiction, referring to the “heartbreaking stuff” revealed in the late actor’s memoir. Clooney emphasized that success and wealth do not guarantee happiness, emphasizing the importance of being content with oneself and one’s life.
Matthew Perry, who passed away in October, was initially believed to have died from accidental drowning in his hot tub. However, an official medical report revealed that the actor’s death was attributed to the “acute effects of ketamine.” The autopsy report, released on Friday, further stated that drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of an opioid also contributed to Perry’s untimely demise.
Clooney’s revelations have prompted speculation among fans about Perry’s reluctance to be remembered solely for his “Friends” role. Instead, it is suggested that Perry aimed to be remembered for his philanthropic endeavors and other contributions beyond the realm of acting.
