Gregg Sulkin (Marvel’s Runaways), William Miller (The 100), and Melina Matthews (Warrior Nun) have been confirmed for roles in the upcoming spider thriller “Arachnid.” This film marks the first feature from Badlands, the new indie genre label formed by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road, alongside former Screen Gems executive Scott Strauss, and Andrew Schwartzberg and Jon Shiffman’s Renegade Capital.
Directed by Ángel Gómez Hernández (Voces) with a screenplay by Jayson Rothwell (Underworld: Blood Wars), “Arachnid” stars Matilda Lutz and is currently shooting overseas. The plot revolves around a man who unknowingly brings back a new breed of arachnid from his travels, leading to a quarantine of an apartment block where residents must survive a plague of venomous spiders.
The film’s producers include Rothwell, Schwartzberg, Shiffman, Peter Welter, Alexandra Milchan, and Josh Weinstock. Altitude Film Sales is managing international sales, having presented the project to potential buyers at Cannes earlier this summer. CAA Media Finance is handling domestic rights.
Gregg Sulkin, widely recognized for his role in Marvel’s Runaways, has a diverse portfolio including PBS’s World on Fire, Netflix’s Pretty Smart, and The CW’s Pretty Little Liars. His upcoming projects include Tyler Perry’s Six Triple Eight and the European thriller series The Kollective. Sulkin’s recent films include the indies The Throwback and The List.
William Miller’s credits include Netflix’s Warrior Nun, The CW’s The 100, and films such as Megan Leavey and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Melina Matthews, also featured in Warrior Nun and Megan Leavey, has notable roles in Netflix’s Iron Reign, the comedy Official Competition starring Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas, and Pedro Almodóvar’s upcoming film The Room Next Door.
Representation for the cast includes D2 management, Curtis Brown Group, and Independent Artist Group for Sulkin; Alter Ego Talent House and Buchwald for Miller; and Bedelka Talent for Matthews.
