‘Indian 2,’ starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role, hit theaters on July 12 with high expectations. However, the film failed to meet these expectations and underperformed at the box office. It received poor reviews consistently, leading to low audience occupancy and diminishing interest. Despite this, ‘Indian 2’ is set to release on Netflix soon, with the popular platform acquiring the OTT rights for an impressive Rs 200 crore. The film is scheduled to premiere on the digital platform on August 9, and fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival. ‘Indian 2’ will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Initially, there were reports suggesting an early OTT release due to the film losing screens globally. However, the makers opted to wait for the official OTT release date to avoid potential issues for ‘Indian 3.’ The OTT rights for both ‘Indian 2’ and ‘Indian 3’ were jointly purchased for Rs 220 crore, marking a record deal for a Tamil film.
Directed by Shankar, ‘Indian 2’ features Kamal Haasan’s return as Senapathy. The cast also includes Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Vivek, Nedumudi Venu, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music, and Ravi Varman handled the cinematography. Despite the mixed reception, ‘Indian 2’ has grossed over Rs 150 crore globally, making it a profitable venture for the makers due to its substantial pre-release business.
