South Indian actors Ajith Kumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and Shobana have been honoured with the prestigious Padma Awards for their remarkable contributions to the world of arts. Reports and speculations are now going viral on the internet, suggesting that Shobana is set to play a significant role in the much-awaited movie Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor.
According to recent buzz, Shobana steps into the character of Kaikasi, mother of Ravana. Her portrayal is expected to be one of the film’s most impactful, adding emotional depth and dramatic intensity. Anyway, there is no official confirmation regarding the same; neither the makers nor Shobana have reacted to the buzz.
Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will be essaying the roles of Ram and Sita, respectively. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the movie promises jaw-dropping visual effects to deliver an unparalleled cinematic experience. Meanwhile, KGF star Yash is set to play Ravana, a role he had confirmed earlier in an interview.
Ramayana is currently under production, with its release targeted for Diwali 2026. The movie is expected to have its second part released in 2027. Shobana recently played a vital role in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, which became a megahit at the box office worldwide. The film also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani in key roles. The director has confirmed a second part for the epic science-fiction saga.
Actor Anant Nag, singer Pankaj Udhas (posthumously), and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur were also honoured with the Padma Bhushan. The Padma Shri was awarded to Arijit Singh, composer and musician Ricky Kej, singer Jaspinder Narula, and Barry Godfray John on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day.
