In his recently released memoir ‘Spare’, Prince Harry, now 39, openly discussed his encounters with psychedelic substances, known for their potential to induce hallucinations. While acknowledging the transformative impact of these experiences on his life during various interviews, he also cautioned against recreational use, highlighting their potential therapeutic effects.
During a livestreamed conversation with physician Gabor Mate, Prince Harry expressed, “I would say it is one of the fundamental parts of my life that changed me and helped me deal with the traumas and the pains of the past.” He mentioned trying ayahuasca, a plant-based psychedelic typically brewed into a liquid form.
Notably, ayahuasca has been a topic of discussion for other celebrities as well. Jada Pinkett Smith, 52, shared her experiences with the substance in interviews throughout the year. Her husband, Will Smith, 55, has also reportedly recounted his own encounters with ayahuasca.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Jada was asked if she had taken ayahuasca with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, residing within an hour of them in California. Jada responded, “No, but I didn’t know they did that.” While there is no indication that Meghan has tried psychedelics, Jada, upon learning of Prince Harry’s remarks, remarked, “Good for them!”
Jada had previously opened up about her ayahuasca experiences while promoting her memoir ‘Worthy,’ released in October. In an interview with People magazine around that time, she stated, “Ayahuasca helped me; it gave me a new intimate relationship with myself that I had never had before.”
