In a solemn moment for the artistic community, the news of the passing of renowned poet Inderjeet, also known as Imroz, resonates through the hearts of admirers. Imroz’s verses, which continue to echo in the hearts of many, have left an indelible mark on the literary landscape. The void left by his demise is palpable, yet his profound contributions to poetry endure as a timeless legacy.
Punjabi director Jagdeep Sidhu, expressing his grief, shared a monochrome picture of Imroz alongside his lifelong love, Amrita Pritam. In a poignant caption, Sidhu revealed that he drew inspiration from Imroz and Amrita’s love story for a scene in the upcoming ‘Qismat 2.’
Describing the emotional connection between Imroz and Amrita, Sidhu recalled how, after Amrita’s passing, Imroz remained alone. Amrita’s words, “We would unite, and we would meet, I don’t know how, but we are destined to be together,” lingered in the air. With Imroz’s departure, Sidhu believes that they will finally reunite in the afterlife.
Sidhu’s heartfelt caption read, “ek oh isqh c jeda hik de zor naal hoya c,, par yaar de haathi tute teer dekh k roya c.. mainu tute teera de hanjuya to bacha de rabba… main mirza ni ban na chohnda mainu imroz bana de rabba.” Reflecting on the profound love shared by Amrita and Imroz, Sidhu paid homage to their unique bond.
Imroz, who went by the alias Inderjeet, breathed his last at the age of 97. Notably, his enduring connection with Amrita Pritam, though never formalized in marriage, spanned four decades.
