As Jason Momoa wraps up his role as Aquaman in the highly anticipated ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ he is already eyeing a potential new venture in the DC Universe. As sequel plans for ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ remain unconfirmed, Momoa’s journey in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) might conclude with this upcoming release. In a recent interview with Fandango, Momoa, alongside co-star Patrick Wilson, discussed the possibility of taking on the role of Lobo, a character he has previously expressed interest in.
Momoa’s Concerns about the Future of the ‘Aquaman’ Franchise: The actor revealed that he initially believed he was auditioning for the role of Lobo when approached for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’ Despite his skepticism about auditioning for Batman, Momoa went ahead with it, assuming he’d be cast as the formidable villain. However, his expectations were shattered when he learned he was being considered for the role of Aquaman. Reflecting on the moment, Momoa shared, “I got called in the office, and that was just like, ‘Well, do you know who you’re going to play?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, Lobo! Of course. He’s the only one who can fight Batman and Superman.'”
Momoa’s Passion for Lobo: Despite his initial disappointment, Momoa eventually warmed up to the vision for Aquaman, appreciating the character’s renegade and traveler qualities. While the film turned out to be a massive success, Momoa couldn’t shake his desire to portray Lobo. Expressing his passion for the character, he stated, “So Lobo was… I collect comics, and he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.'”
Future Prospects: Although Momoa has not yet received any offers to play Lobo, he expressed his eagerness to take on the role if given the opportunity. He clarified, “I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.” As fans eagerly anticipate Momoa’s potential transition to Lobo, they can catch him in what might be his final appearance as Aquaman when ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ hits theaters on December 22, 2023.
