Kiran Rao’s latest directorial venture “Laapataa Ladies” premiered in theaters on March 1, 2024, receiving widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers alike. The film, which later debuted on Netflix on April 26, has continued to captivate audiences, earning praise for Rao’s direction and the stellar performances of its cast.
Actress Juhi Chawla recently took to her Instagram to express her admiration for the film, sharing its poster and describing it as “utterly charming.” She praised Rao for crafting such an endearing story.
Based on Biplab Goswami’s novel, the movie stars Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan. It revolves around two brides who unintentionally swap places during a train journey in rural India in 2001, leading to a series of dramatic events as their husbands search for them.
Produced under Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, “Laapataa Ladies” marks Kiran Rao’s return to directing after “Dhobi Ghat.” The film had its initial screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, where it received a standing ovation from the audience.
