Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has demanded a CBI investigation into the rape and murder of a female postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Ranaut took to Instagram Stories to express her outrage over the incident and called for justice. Describing the case as both horrific and appalling, she emphasized the need for a CBI-led inquiry to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable.
The body of the woman, who was found semi-nude in a seminar hall on Friday morning, showed signs of severe injuries and preliminary autopsy results indicated she had been sexually assaulted before her death. Ranaut urged for the case to be handed over to the CBI for a thorough investigation and demanded that the assailant be punished severely.
In response to this tragic event, the Federation of Resident Doctors Associations (FORDA) has called for a nationwide medical strike. Additionally, RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh has resigned from his position in the wake of the incident.
Amidst this turmoil, Kangana Ranaut is preparing for the release of her political-thriller film, Emergency, in which she portrays former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, set during the Emergency period of 1975-1977, will hit cinemas worldwide on September 6th. Recently, Ranaut shared a new poster for the film on Instagram, announcing the trailer release date for August 14th. The poster features Ranaut as Indira Gandhi alongside Milind Soman, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Vishwak Nair, who play notable figures from the era.
