Filmmaker Kiran Rao, formerly married to actor Aamir Khan, recently spoke candidly about her challenging journey to motherhood before the birth of their son, Azad. In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Rao revealed that she had faced multiple miscarriages and health issues during her efforts to conceive over a period of five years.
Despite the difficulties, Rao and Khan remained determined to have a child. The birth of Azad marked a pivotal moment in her life, and she expressed that raising him became her primary focus, saying, “All I wanted to do was raise my baby.” Following Azad’s birth through IVF surrogacy, Rao chose to take a break from directing films to prioritize her role as a mother. Reflecting on this decision, she expressed no regrets about not making a film for over a decade, citing the joy she found in her son’s upbringing as some of the best years of her life.
During the interview, Rao also shared that Azad does not currently have an interest in pursuing a career in acting. Instead, he is more drawn to art, music, and animation.
Rao and Khan, who were married from 2005 to 2021, welcomed Azad through IVF surrogacy.
