Actress Michelle Keegan, known for her role in ‘Coronation Street,’ recently shared her experience working on the new streaming thriller ‘Fool Me Once’ with Dame Joanna Lumley. The 36-year-old star discussed the filming process on ‘The Graham Norton Show,’ expressing her “embarrassment” over a particular aspect.
In the series, Keegan plays Maya Stern, an ex-army captain unraveling the mystery of seeing her murdered husband, Joe (Richard Armitage), on a secret nanny cam. Lumley portrays her mother-in-law, Judith Burkett.
During the interview, Keegan mentioned the enjoyment of working with BAFTA-winning Lumley, stating, “It was so much fun, and we laughed the whole way through.” However, she admitted a challenge, saying, “There were a lot of F-bombs dropped in the show, but I just couldn’t bring myself to swear at her in rehearsal. I was just so embarrassed to say the word.”
The Mirror.co.uk reports that ‘Fool Me Once’ has quickly climbed Netflix’s charts since its New Year’s Day release. Keegan expressed disbelief at the show’s global success, saying, “It’s madness that it’s number one all over the world. I was always a huge fan of Harlan Coben books, so when I got the call, it was ‘Yes, absolutely,’ and I grabbed it with both hands.”
Contrasting her current role with her past in ‘Coronation Street,’ Keegan described the gritty new drama as a departure from the soap opera, referring to the latter as “a massive learning platform.” She shared the difficulty of deciding to leave ‘Coronation Street,’ stating, “I took a long, long time to decide; it was very hard.” Keegan also revealed how the loss of her character in the soap opera motivated her to work harder. “When they told me they were killing off my character and there was no going back, I thought I would never work again. My security was ripped away, which made me push forward and work harder,” she explained.
