In an exclusive announcement, it has been revealed that the political drama-thriller “Words Of War,” featuring a stellar ensemble including Maxine Peake, Ciarán Hinds, and Jason Isaacs, is set to make its debut at this month’s Cannes Market.
The film is a collaborative effort between Rolling Pictures, Good Films Collective, and Concourse Media, with Concourse Media holding world rights and presenting the film to potential buyers at Cannes.
Penned by Eric Poppen and helmed by James Strong of “Broadchurch” fame, the story is inspired by the life of Anna Politkovskaya, an American-Russian journalist who fearlessly fought for an independent voice in Russia during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Despite facing threats and violence, Politkovskaya persisted in reporting on the Second Chechen War until her assassination in 2006, earning global recognition for her advocacy of press freedom.
Maxine Peake takes on the titular role of Anna Politkovskaya, while Ciarán Hinds portrays Dmitry, her friend and editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta. Jason Isaacs stars as Sasha, Politkovskaya’s husband. The cast also includes Ian Hart, Naomi Battrick, Harry Lawtey, Ellie Bamber, Agni Scott, Alec Newman, and Ben Miles.
Concourse CEO Matthew Shreder emphasized the relevance of Politkovskaya’s story in today’s geopolitical climate, highlighting the film’s potential to captivate and educate audiences with its gripping narrative.
With its debut on the horizon, “Words Of War” promises to shed light on a remarkable chapter of journalistic courage and political intrigue.
