Actress Regina Cassandra recently emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and her personal commitment to advocating for it. As part of Earth Day, Cassandra participated in a beach clean-up event in Chennai and shared her views on preserving the ecosystem.
Cassandra, known for her roles in various films, including the highly anticipated “Vidaamuyarchi” with Ajith Kumar, highlighted the significance of understanding the impact of human actions on the environment. She credited her upbringing for instilling in her a consciousness not just about people around her but also about animals and the environment.
“I was very fortunate to have an upbringing where I was taught to be conscious of not just myself and the people around me, but also the animals, my environment and how we are messing with the ecosystem, the weather, the water around us, or the land that we’re on,” Cassandra said.
The actress also recalled her college days when she was very vocal about littering. “Even those who knew me when I was in college know how conscious I am about littering. The younger me used to get into fights about it. But as I grew older, I realised fighting didn’t make sense. So now, I tell people nicely instead of getting angry or irritated and I make them understand. And it does help,” she added.
Cassandra expressed her belief that individuals, especially those with a platform like celebrities, should use their influence to promote social causes. “I don’t think it is mandatory for a celebrity to talk about social causes. But I believe that a celebrity or anyone with a platform should want to use it to enable others. It doesn’t come from the perspective of, ‘Oh, we should talk about social causes’. Instead, it comes from the perspective that ‘I have this platform and I know I can reach out to so many people’. It is important to be aware that you have the platform and the power to move people,” she stated.
The actress’s dedication to environmental conservation and her proactive involvement in initiatives like the beach clean-up reflect her commitment to making a positive impact on the world around her.
