In a recent announcement, actor Sidharth Malhotra shared his excitement about joining Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, expressing his eagerness to be part of the upcoming OTT series, “Indian Police Force.” Scheduled to premiere on January 19 on Prime Video, the seven-part action series marks the collaboration between Shetty and Malhotra in the realm of long-format storytelling.
“Indian Police Force” serves as the next installment in Shetty’s cinematic universe, which originated with the 2011 film “Singham” and expanded with “Singham Returns” (2014), “Simmba” (2018), and “Sooryavanshi” (2021). During the trailer launch event, 38-year-old Malhotra praised Shetty’s prowess in presenting heroes in Hindi cinema, emphasizing the director’s unique language in portraying action and masculinity.
Malhotra revealed that the collaboration had been in the works for two years, with Shetty sharing his vision for a cop universe project for OTT. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for the show, stating that despite being a series, “Indian Police Force” encompasses all the elements of a feature film, promising a dose of Hindi cinema entertainment.
The series, also featuring Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi, revolves around the efforts of Delhi Police officers to apprehend the masterminds behind a series of bomb blasts. Malhotra described his experience on the show as “warm and refreshing,” highlighting the homely atmosphere on set, which he found to be a welcome departure from the sometimes harsh and practical nature of the film industry.
Shilpa Shetty, who plays the role of Tara Shetty in the series, described her character as “gritty, compassionate, and selfless.” Expressing her desire to work with Rohit Shetty, Shetty saw the opportunity to play a cop in his cop universe as a compliment to her career.
Rohit Shetty, the creator of the series, co-directed it with Sushwanth Prakash. The ensemble cast also includes Shweta Tiwari, Nikitin Dheer, Rituraj Singh, Mukesh Rishi, and Lalit Parimoo in pivotal roles. “Indian Police Force” aims to deliver a compelling narrative that combines the grit of real-life heroes with the entertainment value characteristic of Hindi cinema.
