Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara and American actor Joe Manganiello have officially concluded their divorce proceedings, as revealed in court documents obtained by People magazine on Friday. The divorce is being treated as an uncontested action, indicating that both parties reached a mutual agreement on their property and marriage issues, which has been or is in the process of being submitted to the court.
According to the documents, Manganiello requested the termination of spousal support for both parties, and the proposed decision outlines that legal fees will be ordered. The high-profile couple announced their split in July through a joint statement with Page Six after being together for seven years and getting married in November 2015 at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
In the statement, they expressed their mutual decision to divorce, emphasizing their love and care for each other while requesting privacy during this challenging time. Two days after the announcement, Manganiello officially filed for divorce from Sofia Vergara, citing irreconcilable differences and specifying July 2 as the date of separation. He also noted the existence of a prenuptial agreement.
Vergara later filed a second motion requesting the court to uphold the prenuptial agreement. In a January interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais, she revealed that the primary reason for their split was a disagreement over expanding their family. Vergara stated that Manganiello, being younger, wanted to have children, while she, already a mother, did not wish to become a parent again.
“I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore,” Vergara explained. She expressed her readiness to be a grandmother and highlighted the natural progression of life, emphasizing her son’s future role as a father.
Since their separation, both Vergara and Manganiello have moved on romantically. Manganiello is reportedly dating actor Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara has been seen with orthopaedic physician Justin Saliman in recent months. Despite the divorce, Vergara remains open to new experiences and relationships, stating that she is not on dating apps but is “open to having fun” and emphasizing that she doesn’t need a husband but is open to the possibility.
