Renowned filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, joined by a stellar cast including Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi, and Sanjay Kapoor, unveiled the Tamil trailer of their upcoming film “Merry Christmas” in Mumbai. The event provided a glimpse into Raghavan’s Tamil directorial debut, where he shared insights into the challenges faced during the dual-language production.
Expressing his Tamilian roots, Sriram Raghavan spoke about his long-standing desire to create a Tamil film. However, after directing “Merry Christmas” in both Hindi and Tamil, the director openly admitted to the formidable challenges involved, expressing reluctance to undertake such a demanding task in the future.
During the press conference, Raghavan revealed that, despite the labor-intensive process, he remains keen on exploring diverse creative avenues. Interestingly, he expressed interest in directing a Marathi film in the near future, signaling a dynamic and multifaceted artistic journey.
The unveiling also showcased a new song, ‘Nazar Teri Toofan,’ from the Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi starrer “Merry Christmas,” adding to the excitement surrounding the film.
In a candid acknowledgment, Sriram Raghavan shed light on the complexities of multilingual filmmaking, emphasizing the distinct nature of the Tamil version of “Merry Christmas.” The Tamil trailer not only features visual differences but also includes different character actors compared to the Hindi version, dispelling any notion of a mere dubbed version.
Raghavan underscored the meticulous approach taken for the Tamil version, clarifying that it involved a complete reshooting of the entire movie after the Hindi version was completed. This effort was aimed at providing the Tamil audience with a unique and authentic cinematic experience.
Despite the challenges posed by reshooting scenes with the same camera and lighting, Sriram Raghavan conveyed his enjoyment of the process, driven by his enduring desire to create a Tamil movie. As “Merry Christmas” gears up for its cinematic release on January 12, anticipation builds for this distinctive cinematic venture.
