In a recent Instagram post, American singer and actor Toni Braxton addressed swirling rumors surrounding her alleged marriage to rapper Birdman. Dismissing speculations of a private ceremony over the weekend, Braxton clarified, “My dear friend @birdman and I are not married…never been married. We are both single.”
Sharing a screenshot of a news article proclaiming, “#FAKENEWS. Congratulations! Toni Braxton & Birdman Married In A Private Ceremony In Mexico!”, the ‘Another Sad Love Song’ singer set the record straight. The couple has been on and off since their breakup in 2019.
Braxton and Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman initially collaborated in 2002 on the hit ‘Baby Can You Do It.’ Their romantic relationship commenced in 2016, with Braxton becoming a pillar of support for the hip-hop artist during her battle with Lupus.
Speaking about their unexpected journey from friends to partners, Braxton told People in 2018, “He has come to my baby showers, my plays, my shows. I never thought we would be dating or getting married.” The R&B singer revealed that Birdman expressed his longstanding admiration, admitting, “He told me he always liked me, and I was like, ‘You never told me!’ And he’s like, ‘Well, you were married!’ He said, ‘I was always digging you.'”
Despite the engagement announcement in February 2018, the couple reversed their decision to marry at the start of 2019. Previously, Toni Braxton was married to singer-songwriter Keri Lewis from 2001 to 2013, with whom she shares sons Diezel Ky and Denim Cole.
